Llangynwyd

The government's website describes Llangynwyd village as one of the 'jewels of the area' and, once seen, you will be hard-pushed to disagree. Rolling hills provide the backdrop while the old stone buildings hark back to the pre-industrial age and that is precisely the charm of the place.

Its church was founded in the 6 th century and has been restored several times since. Buried in the churchyard are Will Hopcyn and Ann Thomas, the lovers at the heart of the Welsh legend - The Maid of Cefn Ydfa.  The legend says that Thomas was forced to marry a wealthy man when she was in love with Hopcyn, a poet and thatcher. Thomas tragically died while pining for her true love.
