The music scene in Wales is probably as vibrant now as it has ever been with exciting new acts appearing on an almost daily basis. The Wales 100 has been compiled by Francis Brown of www.newsoundwales.com. Here's a selection of twenty of the finest singers and bands from, or currently living, in Wales.

  THE JOY FORMIDABLE
Joy Formidable were formed in North Wales in 2007 and quickly established themselves as one of the best new rock bands to emerge from Wales in recent years.

In the 90s Welsh band Murry The Hump recorded three sessions for John Peel and had high profile fans such as Alex James from Blur.

  HENRY'S FUNERAL SHOE
Made up of two brothers playing guitar and drum, Henry's Funeral Shoe are influenced by blues and 60s bands their debut album 'Donkey Jacket' has pushed them into the first division of Welsh bands.

  THE BOY ROYALS
You might know this Newport band under their previous name of 'Town'. Influenced by bands such as The Jam, The Who and Britpop they released a single 'Teenage Sky' under their previous name that received airplay from DJ's such as Steve Lamacq and Huw Stevens.

Elder Statesmen

  JOHN CALE
Former member of the Velvet Underground Cale became one of the few people from Wales to truly make it into the rock premiere league of the 1970s. Signed to Island Records after the break up of the Velvets he produced such classic albums as "Paris 1919" and "Fear".
